I was tired of dragging around a laptop 7 + lbs. I have a lot of research and settled in this little notebook 3.1 lbs. Compromises were certainly made, but for the price, portability and battery life, you can not beat this deal. My first Acer 1410 has had a problem where the blower fan complained loudly as if brushing something inside - I requested an exchange, and the new unit is very quiet. Amazon made the exchange fast and painless. I had the computer in a few weeks now and here are the pros and cons, as I see them:
Pro
-price/weight/battery life (maybe not 6 hours, as advertised, but I can easily get with the heavy use 4-5)
spreadsheet ideal for writing / / internet, but can also run ArcGIS, Photoshop, and many other programs without problems (just do not expect to make a play intense)
reasonably fast-boot Vista Home Premium 32-bit (while waiting for Windows 7)
Keyboard is great after a little 'getting used to
